Mauritius is a beautiful place to visit all year round, but is there a better time of year to go?
There is no wrong time to visit Mauritius - its tropical climate means that there is warm weather throughout the year, and that even in the rainy season the bursts of precipitation are often quickly followed by bright sunshine.
For many travellers deciding on the best time to visit Mauritius, it depends on what you want to get out of your holiday - be it diving, sunbathing, golf, or simply relaxation. Thankfully this beautiful island can cater to everybody, and this versatility means that the best time to visit Mauritius may be sooner than you think.
Throughout the year and changing Mauritian seasons, the average daily temperature doesn’t stray from between 21°C and 26°C, so pack for the heat.

Due to the tropical climate rain is seen frequently in Mauritius, but showers usually fall hard and fast and then blow over just as quickly. January and February are the wettest and most humid months, with the occasional storm passing through.
The western coast is often significantly drier on average than the rest of the country - and this is also where you will find most of our hotels.
October to April is Mauritian peak season - it is then that you will find the hottest temperatures and warmest waters. These months also coincide with lots of Mauritian public holidays. November and December are particularly popular because they are the best months in which to find the highest temperatures combined with the least chance of rainfall.
May to September is Mauritian winter and is the time when hotels and other amenities on the island will be cheaper and less crowded. The comparatively cooler temperatures and drop in humidity are benefits of travelling at this time of year. And for those who enjoy wind-driven sports such as kitesurfing or parasailing, the seasonal increase in winds can help to stir things up in the water.
This period is within the northern hemisphere’s main summer months; if you’re booking a family holiday this may be the best time to go to Mauritius, with no need to take the kids out of school.
Mauritius is considered a year-round destination for golf, but if you’re in need of a little more specificity we would say avoid the higher winds of July and August, and the wet months of January to March.
June to November is best, as this is when the rainfall is at its lowest. Even then it can be hard to catch a good wave; they are rare and inconsistent, and should a good swell come in at the weekend it’s bound to be incredibly crowded.
The sparkling water of the Indian Ocean is as warm as a bath for most of the year, so diving in Mauritius is always bound to be pleasant. However the summer season of November to March is considered best for diving, as this is when the waters are at their warmest and most likely to usher in the more interesting marine life.
Due to its multicultural nature there are always events and festivals happening in Mauritius, no matter what time of year you visit. Expect celebrations from a multitude of faiths including Hindu Diwali, or the Chinese New Year Spring Festival.
A sporting hub, you can also find plenty of golf and watersports-focused events across the island, from local regattas to international competitions such as the Indian Ocean Island Games.
